My son Matthew Shattuck was only 31 years old when his life was tragically cut short. On June 17th, 2026, Matthew was killed instantly while riding his ebike, struck by a dump truck. This devastating loss comes just three years after we lost our older son in a car accident. Now, as we face the unimaginable pain of losing our youngest son, we are reaching out for help to give Matthew the proper funeral, burial, and services he deserves.
Matthew was a hard worker, starting his day at 4:00 a.m. at one of the nation's largest tire distributor companies. He spent his days lifting tires and working physically hard. On the day he passed, he finished work early at 12:30 p.m., went directly to the pharmacy to pick up his prescription, and was on his way home to rest and relax after a long day. Tragically, he never made it home.
My wife and I had four children: our oldest daughter Nicole, then Michael, Mariah, and finally Matthew. We have literally lost half of our children—both of our boys. Now, only our two girls are left, and they are amazing, but they have lost their only brothers, and we have lost our only sons. It is devastating to move on when half of your family has disappeared in just three years.
Our family is in financial distress. My wife and I both survive only on Social Security, and our oldest daughter is also on Social Security. Our youngest daughter works part-time as a caretaker and barely makes enough to survive herself. This tragedy was completely unexpected, and we just want Matthew to have the honors and a beautiful service that his brother had three years earlier. When Matthew attended his brother's service, he said how wonderful it was that everyone donated so Michael could have such a beautiful service—one of the most touching we've ever seen. I want Matthew to have the same wonderful service, nothing less than his older brother had.
We recently moved, using every penny we had, and now we have no money for food or to help bury our son. The funds raised will go directly toward covering the costs of a funeral service, cremation, and memorial artifacts such as urns for the immediate family. We also hope to create a memorial for Matthew, but we simply do not have the means to support this unexpected tragedy on our own.
Anyone who finds it in their heart to donate would be so deeply appreciated.
