Hey there! I'm Jon Kahananui, a professional/freelance musician out of Salt Lake City.
My mother, Marilyn Kahananui, just recently passed away on February 7th, 2025, at 1:35 pm. We, as a family, grew up in poverty. As times have changed and everyone has gotten older, we live paycheck-to-paycheck. My mother came from a family of 10 siblings; she was the 9th and the last to go. She is preceded in death by both parents, all of her siblings, and my 3 older siblings, including my brother who recently passed at the end of last May in 2024.
We could never afford insurance, other than her being on Medicaid, which helped cover all of her expenses in the ICU. She fought valiantly for a month until she couldn't fight any longer. We never took the time to go through funeral expenses before she passed, and my mother never made those arrangements in her life. She didn't have any life insurance or funeral insurance. It has left my sister and I devastated.
I understand, given the circumstances, some of you may feel uncomfortable donating towards her funeral costs. I am not expecting people to donate. If you do, I am truly appreciative. If you don't, I respect that.
Thank you all!
