Johnny Houston Webb was born on August 29, 1948, and passed away on March 25, 2026. He was a veteran of the United States Army who spent over 20 years homeless, walking the streets of Temple, Texas. Johnny faced many hardships, including serious illness that led to frequent hospital stays and eventually time in a nursing home. He struggled with Parkinson’s disease and heart failure, which made his journey even more difficult. When he was discharged from the nursing home, he had no family, friends, or home to return to, and found himself homeless once again.

Three years ago, my husband Richard and I met Johnny through a social worker at the nursing home. We took him in, and he became a part of our family. He lived in Moffett, Texas, with other men who had faced similar struggles, and together they formed a close-knit community. Johnny was so ill that he was placed on hospice care, where he remained for three years. Despite his challenges, Johnny had a remarkable past—he once toured with Willie Nelson and shared special moments with loved ones. After losing his wife to cancer, Johnny lost hope and spent decades on the streets.

Johnny was a very simple man who loved fishing, taking walks to the park, and spending hours reading books in the pavilion. He was always there for me when I needed a true friend, never holding back and always telling me the truth, even when it was hard to hear. Our last conversation was about how much he missed his wife every single day. He knew he didn’t have much longer, but he found comfort in talking to the man upstairs. Johnny was an amazing friend—one of a kind. They don’t make them like him anymore.

Richard and I have always tried to serve our community, offering what little we have to help those in need. We have provided housing for several people, but we do not have the means to cover funeral expenses. I have also faced my own health challenges, making it even harder to manage these costs. Johnny was family to us, and we want to honor his life with a proper burial and celebration. We are reaching out to our community for help—any support you can offer will make a difference and help us give Johnny the farewell he deserves.
