Darlene was like a second mom to me. I cared for her and moved her in with me three different times through strokes. She loved butterflies and the color pink, and although a lot of people who knew her didn’t really know the amazing heart she had, she loved so big. Darlene was truly one of a kind, always wearing a smile and offering a helping hand to anyone in need, even when she had little to give herself. Over the past few years, she faced unimaginable challenges. Three years ago, she went into cardiac arrest three times in a single day, just before she could begin treatment for the cancer she had been diagnosed with. She spent two months on life support, followed by a month in continued care and another month in a nursing facility. Through it all, Darlene’s strength and kindness never wavered, and she continued to inspire everyone around her.
On January 22nd, Darlene lost her battle with aggressive cancer that had metastasized. Her passing has left a deep void in the lives of her family and friends. Her husband, who has been her sole caregiver for the past three years, has been unable to work and has tried unsuccessfully to secure loans to cover funeral expenses. With only her social security to rely on, the financial burden has become overwhelming.
We are raising funds to give Darlene the proper burial she deserves and to help her family through this incredibly difficult time. If you knew Darlene, you knew how big her heart was. Any support you can give would mean the world to her loved ones and would help honor her memory in the way she deserves.
