We are heartbroken to share the loss of a beloved son, Damilola Khalid Afolabi, who was taken far too soon after a tragic drowning incident at the Mahogany Calgary Lake on Sunday, 3rd May 2026.

Damilola and his family had recently moved to Canada in March 2026, in hopes of building a better life and were settling into their new environment.

In that short time, Damilola was trying to make new friends, enjoy the outdoors, and be part of his new community. Unfortunately, he did not know how to swim, and this tragedy happened too quickly.

Damilola’s memory will always remain in our hearts.

Because they were new to Canada with limited financial and social support, this tragedy has made an already difficult time even harder for the family.

We are asking for support to help the family during this unimaginable time of loss; particularly to cover expenses related to honoring his memory and supporting the family as they navigate the days ahead.
