Help Honor Cassie's Final Journey
Dear friends,
As many of you know, my beloved dog Cassie recently faced a life-threatening emergency. Twelve days ago, while I was out of town, she was rushed to the emergency vet and came close to passing away. Somehow, she held on. When I returned, she seemed to improve for a bit, but the reality is heartbreaking—her doctor diagnosed her with a large tumor in her bladder and abdominal wall.
At first, Cassie's condition seemed dire, with internal bleeding and uncertainty about her future. Miraculously, her latest blood tests improved, and the bleeding stopped. However, I cannot escape the painful truth: Cassie has cancer. It will eventually take her, and I find myself cherishing every single moment with her while also preparing for the inevitable.
As a first-time dog owner, I never imagined facing this heartbreaking decision—will she pass in her sleep? Will I need to help her transition peacefully? Is she in too much pain? Every day, I evaluate her quality of life and wonder when the hardest decision will have to be made.
Adding to this emotional weight is the financial burden of caring for Cassie in her final days. Between emergency vet visits, ongoing palliative care, and the cost of home euthanasia and aftercare, I am struggling to cover the expenses. I live paycheck to paycheck and have already borrowed money to make sure Cassie gets the care she deserves. The stress of needing to work while wanting to be fully present with her in these last moments is overwhelming.
A friend encouraged me to start this GoFundMe, and though I rarely ask for help, I realize that support from those who love Cassie could make all the difference. If you find it in your heart to contribute, your donation will go toward:
Cassie’s medical expenses
At-home euthanasia, when the time comes
Aftercare costs to ensure she is honored properly
Cassie has been my best friend—loyal through every high and low, from joyous moments to heartbreak, from depression to rediscovering love in my life. She has given me so much, and I want to give her the best care possible in return.
Should Cassie pass before all funds are used, I will donate any remaining amount to a dog rescue in her honor.
I have supported friends in times of need with their beloved pets, and now, I humbly ask for the same kindness. Whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or simply offering words of comfort, I deeply appreciate your support.
Cassie has been loved by so many—thank you for being part of her journey and for helping me ensure she is cared for in her final days.
With love and gratitude, Debbie Sumner
