Help Honor a Hero: Support John L. Thompson’s Dementia Care
Donation protected
My name is Austin, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share the story of my beloved grandfather, John L. Thompson (right in the photo), and my father, John Thompson (left). Our family is facing an incredibly difficult time, and we need your help to provide the care and stability my grandfather deserves.
My grandfather is the most generous, caring man I’ve ever known. A licensed pharmacist in Santa Barbara, CA, for over 40 years, he dedicated his life to helping others. During the Vietnam War, he served as an officer pharmacist, providing critical medical care in New York for those impacted by the conflict. After his service, he returned to California, where he continued his pharmacy work and found joy in singing with his church choir, a passion he’s held for decades.
But the past few years have been heartbreaking. My grandfather lost his only daughter—my aunt—to multiple sclerosis, and during her battle, he and my grandmother took on the responsibility of raising my two cousins. Tragically, my grandfather was recently diagnosed with progressive dementia, a cruel disease that is stealing his ability to manage his finances, home, and daily life. The combination of medical expenses, raising my cousins, and predatory loan services has drained his retirement savings and stripped the equity from his home.
Our family is struggling to keep up. We’re working to find a safe, stable home for my grandparents and cousins and to ensure my grandfather receives the quality care he needs as his dementia progresses. But we can’t do it alone—our own financial challenges make it impossible to cover these mounting costs.
This is why I’m asking for your support. Your donation will help us:
- Secure a safe home for my grandparents and cousins.
- Cover medical and care expenses for my grandfather’s dementia.
- Provide stability for my cousins, who have already lost so much.
Every dollar makes a difference, and even sharing this campaign with others can help us honor the man who has given so much to his community, his country, and our family. My grandfather spent his life serving others—now it’s our turn to give back to him and my grandmother, who has stood by his side through it all.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity. Together, we can ensure my grandfather’s legacy of love and care lives on.
With gratitude,
Austin and the Thompson Family
