I'm 61-years-old and have been homeless in D.C. for a year. I have been working full-time while living in a shelter. I have finally found an apartment with low rent I will be able to afford. The problem is that I cannot afford the security deposit AND first month's rent. I also cannot afford to buy any furniture. I have health issues and am worried about remaining homeless with the hot DC summer coming up. Having a home would mean everything to me.
My birthday is coming up on May 9th, and all I would ask for is the ability to take a shower in my own bathroom and sleep in my own bed. Please help me make that dream a reality. Thank you.
