Help Home Care Workers Recover from Bronx Fire

Tax deductible
On January 9, our Fordham Heights community was devastated by a deadly fire in the apartment building at 333 East 181st Street. Among the dozens of families and individuals affected by this tragedy, three essential health care workers lost their homes and possessions. Their names are Mercedes De La Cruz, Maimouna Mahamadou, and Bintou Sumareh.

At the time the fire broke out, they were working at Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA), assisting older adults and people with disabilities in our community. They have regularly provided this essential care during the COVID-19 pandemic, taking great personal risks to help their clients stay healthy and supported through this difficult time. Now, Mercedes, Maimouna, and Bintou need our help to recover from the fire’s devastating impact.

Please consider joining us as we extend our arms and open our hearts to these amazing women and their families. 100% of your donation will go toward helping them to rebuild their lives.

This campaign is managed by PHI, the nonprofit partner of CHCA and the country’s leading voice on direct care workforce issues. All funds raised will be passed through PHI to CHCA, and distributed directly to the three workers impacted by the fire.
