Our dear friends’ son, Holland, was on his motorcycle when he was broadsided by a car in a terrible accident that severed his foot. Surgeons managed to reattach it, but it’s still uncertain whether it can be saved — and he will require multiple additional surgeries if he’s able to keep it. He now faces months of surgeries, rehabilitation, and recovery — and is devastated beyond belief.

Medical bills are already in the hundreds of thousands, with untold future care still ahead. Since Holland is uninsured and lives in Florida (a no-Medicaid expansion state), there’s little support available. It’s also unclear what, if anything, the driver’s insurance will cover — and whatever it does is unlikely to come close to the mounting costs or compensate him for this unimaginable loss.

Holland lives with his brother, who’s doing his best to care for him, but they’re both struggling with basic living costs, transportation, and the additional care needed for even simple daily tasks. For someone whose world revolved around skateboarding and dirt biking, this accident has turned life upside down.

We’ve set the fundraising goal lower than what’s truly needed — simply to make it more achievable — but the truth is, every bit of help, large or small, is desperately needed and we may expand the goal as needed.
