Our sweet Hoku found our family and has been the anchor to me and my four children ever since. She’s more than just a pet—she’s a source of comfort, joy, and unconditional love for all of us. A few days ago, something heartbreaking happened that changed everything for Hoku and our family.

Our neighbor, who had just moved in, left her dog unleashed and her door open. Her dog ran out and attempted to aggressively attack Hoku. In the chaos, Hoku was badly hurt—her ligament ruptured and her hip was forced out of its socket. The pain was so intense that Hoku cried out for a long time until we could get her to the vet hospital. We immediately took her to the hospital, where she was sedated until we could get her to her primary veterinarian. Despite their best efforts, her hip wouldn’t stay in place because of the ruptured ligament. Now, Hoku is paralyzed and can barely walk. The neighbor initially offered to help, but later wished us luck and stepped away from the situation, leaving us to face this alone.

Hoku is a beloved member of our family, and it’s devastating to see her in pain and unable to move. As a single mom to four children, I am doing everything I can, but the cost of surgery is more than we can manage on our own. We are desperately seeking help to get Hoku the surgery she needs so she can walk again and return to the happy, loving dog she’s always been.
