Help HoChan Recover From Car Accident Injuries

Hello Everyone,

As some of you know, HoChan was in a car accident on his bike the weekend of Labor Day. He was on his way home from working at the restaurant when he crashed into an SUV and shattered four of his front teeth. One of the teeth was ripped out to the root and he found it nearby on the ground.

After the driver assessed no damage to his car, without asking if HoChan was ok, he drove off. HoChan then carried his bike and his ripped out tooth and walked a mile home, bleeding and banged up. Upon arriving home, Hilary sterilized the dislodged tooth and reimplanted it herself. As it was Labor Day, no dentists were open and the Emergency Dental Clinic in Union Square opened at 8am the following morning. Through the night HoChan continued to bleed and bite down on gauze to stop the teeth from falling out. Hilary stayed awake all night to watch him, keep an eye on the bleeding, clean his wounds, and wait until the Emergency Clinic opened.

The following morning after rushing to the Emergency Dental Clinic, xrays were taken, and the jagged bits of broken teeth were shaved down. The xrays showed the damage from the accident was really bad. One tooth was heavily deviated laterally from the impact, the tooth next to it suffered a complete fracture above the gum line (so it will need to be removed and replaced with an implant), another tooth needs a root canal and the tooth we reimplanted has a 50% chance of surviving the trauma of the impact and being reimplanted. If it doesn't survive, it will also need to be replaced with an implant.

The emergency dentist advised the repairs would be extensive and very expensive if done in the US, and we discussed with her if it would be better to fly to Korea where healthcare is much better and more affordable. She said "If you are planning to go to Korea, that is really your best option, and you need to go NOW if you want to save his teeth."

The next morning we flew to Seoul where he was able to see his family dentist right away. Again, we were told the damage from the impact was very bad and his dentist advised that the repairs would take around 2 months to complete if all goes well.

The money will be used for dental repair costs, rent/bills for our NYC apartment (as HoChan is unable to work while we are out of the country), living expenses while we are stuck in Korea, and our flights back to the US.

We have waited to ask for help until we knew the situation was dire, and we were really in need of some assistance. We truly appreciate any and all help anyone can provide for us in this extremely difficult, uncertain and stressful time.
