Caring brother. Patient grandson. Sweet boy. Plushy baby. Beloved son
Hoagie is known by many and has touched hearts and souls through his hikes, backpack adventures, social media postings, and kitty play dates. His sweet demeanor, plushy coat, and love for adventure makes him beloved by his parents Kyle and Hailey and his sister Azura
As of 2-7-2022, our bread colored British Shorthair is in the intensive care unit at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital recovering from an emergency surgery. He is stable but in critical condition requiring around the clock care

He has had a really rough time since Monday 1-26-22 when he was recovering from his kitty cold but showed signs of constipation.
On 1-31-22, Hoagie spent the whole day going in and out of the litter box and straining before he was able to have a traumatic bowel movement where he relieved himself all at once and painfully. We began to seriously monitor his constipation with increased wet food, decreased dry food, and more fluids
Hoagie checked into urgent care in the morning of 2-3-22 after seeing no bowel movement in 48 hours and decreased appetite/thirst.
They were able administer an enema and he was able to clear a minor amount of his blockage at home. We scheduled a vet visit for the following day at our primary provider
Hoagie had his tests done and two more enemas performed before coming home with us. He was very lethargic, kept climbing into his water dish, and was refusing his favorite treat. After seeing him urinate blood, we rushed him to an emergency room.
He rapidly deteriorated and had to spend the night in the ER before he was transferred to Dove Lewis for an emergency surgery to clear his infection, septic shock, and clear any suspected blockage. With his little body threatening to quit, we reluctantly decided that in an emergency, Hoagie will not be resuscitated. His mommy and daddy spent the entire day crying and praying for their son's surgery results which was looking more grave by the hour.
Hoagie was able to make it through his surgery on 2-6-22 but they could not find any blockage, perforation, or foreign material. All everyone had to go off of was that they flushed his infection and that he has to stay in the ICU due to his critical and precarious situation.
We visited our boy on 2-7-22 where he is still in critical condition but instantly showed renewed vigor and tenacity to live. Afterwards we learned that we signed up too late for pet insurance, Hoagie does not qualify for assistance, and that he will require many more days in the ICU on top of our mounting costs. Our costs are out of pocket and we deeply regret not signing up for pet insurance sooner, but we desperately want our boy to live a long, happy life
Hoagie is still in spending his third night away from us as of 2-7-22 and his 1st birthday is on 2-28-22. We are asking the community to help Hoagie make it out of the hospital so that he can recover at home and throw him his first birthday party. Please help and pray for our baby boy
