Help HMA students replace items from theft
Tax deductible
Aloha Friends of HMA,
I wanted to inform you about an unfortunate car theft that happened on Sunday, Jan. 30, as our HMA students were traveling back to Hawaii from California. We had just participated in the Pacific Union College Invitational Basketball tournament that week, with our boys’ team placing fourth (including one of our players receiving the tournament's Character Award) and our girls’ team taking first place overall.
While stopping at In-N-Out in Oakland, one of our vans was broken into while we were in the restaurant for about 15 minutes. We were informed by our school insurance company that our policy only covers school property, so our students’ property will need to be replaced out of their own pockets. The items taken total nearly $10,000 and include: cash, backpacks, textbooks, clothing, basketball shoes, tablets, laptops, and other technology.
We filed a police report and are making a formal complaint with In-N-Out since there was a security guard on-site, but we would appreciate any assistance you can provide in helping our students replace their personal items.
Thank you for your prayers and continued support of Hawaiian Mission Academy. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through the school website, www.hawaiianmissionacademy.org
