Hello I am Hleziphansi Zita!
My immediate family and I became land owners in Costa Rica back in 2019. Our land is situated in front of a portion of the Cahuita National Park. Our connection to Costa Rica is from our daughter Nandi being a born citizen which allowed us to create sovereignty here in Costa Rica.
Our mission is to use our land as an example for sustainability ( building with 80% natural materials using wattle and daub technique with a finishing of lime plaster & concrete foundation and thatched roofing from local grass, using compost toilet instead of septic tank, use rain catching system, and solar to reduce the radiation admission from using the grid plus the danger of power lines that electrocute the wild life like sloths, howler monkeys, white faced monkeys). Self sufficiency is our goal to reach by developing a homestead that has everything we need to be self efficient.
We plan to hold workshops ( soil building, natural fertilizer, natural building methods etc.) on our land for our community so we can all get to a point where each community member has abundance of food. We plan to build a community greenhouse that is like a food Co-Op. In our Pueblo we are a small community and the closest supermarkets in both directions from our land is 6 miles apart by car, this isn’t sustainable for families who have been impacted tremendously because of the global pandemic. There is still a strong co-dependency on supermarkets here; having a community greenhouse and each community member growing food on their land we can all be self sufficient with our food system.
