I’m reaching out to support someone very special in our community—my neighbor, Hisao. Hisao has lived in the same building next door to my Pilates studio for decades, and he is truly a beloved presence in our neighborhood. If you’ve ever met him, you know his kindness is effortless, and his happiness is contagious. He’s also a musician. Three times a week, Hisao brings his guitar to local farmers markets, where he sings and plays for the community. It’s not just something he loves, it’s also his only source of income—relying on tips to help pay his rent and cover basic needs.
Recently, Hisao lost his upper teeth after a dental bridge failed and the surrounding teeth deteriorated. At this point, he has no upper teeth at all. This has made it incredibly difficult for him to eat, but also to sing—something that is both his passion and his livelihood. English is his second language, and without his teeth, pronunciation has become even more challenging, making it hard for him to perform.
Wanting to help, I reached out to my dentist, who generously stepped in and is donating extensive care—covering extractions, fittings, and all in-office procedures. We are so incredibly grateful for this act of kindness. The remaining cost is the denture itself, which is being provided at lab cost with no markup. Hisao is currently healing and is scheduled to be fitted for his dentures on April 6, 2026. My hope is to raise enough to cover the denture, and if we’re able to go beyond that, any additional funds will go directly to Hisao to help with living expenses during this time, as he’s been unable to fully perform and earn his usual income.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount, it would mean so much. And if not, sharing this with others is another great way to help! Hisao has given so much light and music to this community over the years. This is a chance for us to give a little of that back—so he can smile, sing, and continue doing what he loves.
With gratitude, Erin ox
