Help for Hira & Children - Tragic Accident
Donation protected
Last Thursday morning my friend, Hira, found her husband unresponsive in his car in their garage. The paramedics arrived quickly, but they were unable to revive him. His and Hira's children, Amirah (almost 3) and Aziz (almost 1), were asleep inside the house.
Hira has no family in the United States, and her financial situation is dire. There was no life insurance, and she and the children are not eligible for social security death benefits because her husband had not worked long enough in the U.S. She has been awarded WIC and food stamps, but she is not eligible for cash benefits unless she can find a way to work 20 hours/week.
The last piece is housing: she and the kids are living in a small house Bensenville, but they have to move before the end of the month, likely to a temporary space until they can find an affordable apartment. They are on the wait list for public housing, but, like the Snap cash benefit, they are ineligible to receive housing benefits unless Hira is working at least 20 hours/week.
So, the plan: she will move from Bensenville to an apartment in the city, where my family and I live and can help in small ways on a day-to-day basis. She's looking into city programs for childcare and, if she can get that settled, will look for a part-time job.
The funds from this campaign will help sustain her and her children during this transition. Once they have moved into the city, I'll be looking for hand-me-down furniture/household things/kid things on her behalf.
Thank you in advance for whatever amount you can contribute!
