Help Hilary Get Off Dialysis

Donation protected
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

My story started back in 2007 when I was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease at the age of 20. What followed has been a rollercoaster. I was immediately put on dialysis. On December 15, 2008 I received a perfect match kidney from my cousin Jake. Just 5 short days later, I developed a blood clot that cut off the ciruculation and killed the kidney. Turns out, that happens to less than 1% of transplant patients. The last 8 years, I have been still on dialysis. In 2012, I took a trip to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to begin the process of trying to be listed up there. Because of other developed health issues, I was not considered a good candidate until this past year and a half. Now, we're down to two final tests and hopefully this will happen very quickly. Getting a kidney transplant will be my very best option to get on with a normal life. Dialysis 3 times a week is really taking a toll on my body and mind.

Taking these trips to Mayo have been financially stressful on my husband and I. The real challenge is going to be after I receive a transplant. I'm going to be required to live in Minnesota for 4-6 weeks after the surgery. If just 6 days up there runs us close to $900, the 4-6 week stay will be more than we can handle. Any contributions will be put towards hotels for our short trips up north, and when the time comes, the long term housing after the transplant, food, fuel, and the daily necessities.

After I get this kidney, I will finally be able to live a normal life. It's been so long that I'm not even sure what normal is anymore. I'm currently working part time because that's all I can handle with my very strict dialysis schedule. My husband is working full time, and when this transplant happens, he's going to miss a significant amount of time before he returns home because bills will still have to be paid.

I am not one that enjoys asking for help, but we're at the point that we need it. My husband and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any contribution you may be able to make.
