When sweet 5-month-old Hila the hound mix was first picked up as a stray in rural Texas, it was clear that she had never known human love before. She was terrified and shut down. She also had the misfortune of landing in a high-kill shelter, where she was soon listed for euthanasia. Luckily, some rescue champions in the area learned of her situation and notified The Snuggle is Real Animal Rescue, who offered her a ticket to freedom.

In addition to her fearfulness, Hila was battling kennel cough and a skin infection. Through the love, time, and labor of her friends in Texas, Hila began to trust again, and her health improved. She traveled safely to Colorado, where her foster dad was waiting to welcome her.

Unfortunately, Hila's path to happily-ever-after had one more big roadblock in store: a veterinary exam revealed a likely tear in her Cranial Cruciate Ligament (similar to the ACL in humans). The Snuggle is Real (TSIR) is working with our veterinarian to determine a treatment plan for sweet Hila, and the average cost of surgical repair for these conditions typically runs between $3,000 and $6,000 - well beyond the means of our pocket-sized rescue.
