Help Higashi Ohana Rise from Ashes - Maui Wildfire
Donation protected
Aloha, beloved community,
I'm Jo, reaching out on behalf of Jenny, an unstoppable beacon of hope and resilience. Despite facing adversities like caring for her four sons alone after a challenging divorce, battling the aftermath of a collapsed mortgage industry, and becoming the sole caretaker for her late mother who fought cancer bravely, Jenny has always carried on with a heart full of love.
This incredible mother, grandmother, and community pillar, even amid the economic shutdown from the pandemic, constantly put others before herself. But just as things seemed to be stabilizing for Jenny and her partner Mike, tragedy struck. The unpredictable hurricane winds from Dora led to a devastating wildfire that engulfed Lahaina, where they lived. They barely had moments to save their pets and retrieve her mother’s cherished ashes before their home and precious memories were lost to the flames.
Even now, amidst their personal loss, Jenny and Mike's spirits remain unbroken. They're tirelessly working to rebuild not just their home but their entire Lahaina community. They've never been ones to ask for help, but now they need our collective strength.
How Can You Help?
Your support is so much more than monetary. It's a beacon of hope for Jenny, Mike, and their family, assuring them they aren’t alone. Every donation will be directed towards:
- Immediate temporary housing
- Replacing essential belongings
- Providing emotional and psychological support
- Moreover, we pledge to keep all our supporters updated through photos, videos, and heartfelt messages, sharing both their hurdles and victories.
If you're unfamiliar with the Maui Wildfires, the Higashi family's home stood near Front Street in Lahaina. Tragically, over 100 souls were lost, and 1,000 people remain unaccounted for.
Mahalo for your compassion. Every bit of support, whether financial or moral, is invaluable to the Higashi family. If you wish to send via Venmo or another method, please DM, and I'll connect you directly with Jenny and Mike.
From one soul who once called the mesmerizing Maui home, I ask you to stand with its resilient people. Together, we can rebuild homes, mend hearts, and restore hope.
With gratitude and aloha,
Jo
