Hi, my name is Shana, and I recently adopted a 10-month-old dog named Hiccup from a shelter. Hiccup has a known neurological processing delay and a history of being returned, but he is also very sweet and capable of learning in calm moments.
Since bringing him home, it’s become clear that Hiccup is struggling with severe stress, impulse control, and emotional regulation — especially during transitions, confinement, and excitement. He has shown stress behaviors like excessive barking, crate distress, and inappropriate nipping, which appear to be driven by anxiety and confusion rather than aggression. I already have another dog, Princess, and while I am managing safety carefully, it’s clear that Hiccup needs professional behavioral support beyond what I can safely provide alone.
My goal is to place Hiccup in a behavioral boarding and training program where experienced professionals can work with him intensively on impulse control, stress regulation, appropriate mouth behavior, crate tolerance, and emotional stability. This program would also help determine the best long-term environment for him so he doesn’t have to go back to the shelter without support. All funds raised will go directly toward behavioral boarding and training, professional behavioral evaluation, training tools, and follow-up support.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read Hiccup’s story. Any support — whether through a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping him in your thoughts — truly means more than I can express. Your help gives Hiccup a chance at stability, understanding, and a future where he isn’t defined by his struggles.
