Help save Lana’s life ❤️

When all you want to do is be… be yourself, be alive, be free of pain and fear. And just when you feel that’s within your grasp administrative procedures and insurance companies just won’t allow it. 

Lana, my wife, has been ill for a longer period of time already. Truly ill, life threatening ill. And without proper treatment the damage will only get bigger. The chances for recovery smaller and a normal existence close to impossible. 

Lana has been diagnosed with seronegative autoimmune encephalitis. An illness characterized by the bodies immune system failing, and attacking its own healthy cells instead of potential harmful ones. In Lana’s case, the cells under attack are brain cells, they first get stopped, followed by getting damaged and eventually die. And the loss of those braincells is irreversible and has already started. 

After months of testing and scans we tried all the regular treatments used in Europe. Steroids, immunoglobulins, more steroids, more scans, more MRIs… it just doesn’t work. 

So our last resort is a treatment used in the United States and Canada successfully but deemed experimental in Europe. A chemotherapy, destroying the bodies immune system in an attempt to get it to reboot and revive itself in a healthy way. 

Lana dedicated her life to the rescue of mistreated and traumatized dogs. As did I, until some months ago and we had to put it all on hold because of Lana’s own health. 

We spend tens of thousands of euros on the animals, our entire savings, even took our loans just to be able to house and rescue those who needed it. An attempt to become a voice for the voiceless in an unfair fight. It was the reason to move to Spain and we managed to rescue so many. 

Yet now, due to financial constraints and huge bills for the uninsured treatment we fail to safe Lana herself. 

The costs are immens. €5600,- for the first two days of treatment. And when successful more treatment days will follow. 

An amount of such proportions is something we can no longer cover ourselves. And with that, our plea for help and crowd funding attempt has started. 

There’s so much more to do, so much more to write, yet words are difficult to find. Almost as difficult to find the courage to keep moving forward, keep fighting and hoping for a better day to come.
