Help Hershey, Khaleesi, Millie and Daisy
In late May of 2021, Chandra and her husband Jesse set out on a venture to move their family to Texas to start a new life for themselves and their animals.
They left their horses and donkeys at a professional boarding facility in Colorado, where they not only paid for top care, but were assured they would be well taken care of.
Everything seemed to be going well until August 10th, just two weeks before they were planning to return to pick up their animals, when they were informed by a wonderful human being that their animals were in fact not being taken care of at all and were at risk.
Chandra immediately jumped in the truck and drove the 14 hours back to Colorado to literally rescue their animals.
Upon arrival to the boarding facility she found their animals conditions were deplorable. She discovered they had been stuck in pens with zero shelter or shade, had been being fed moldy trash hay when they were fed, and their water was so dirty it was almost black.
She found her gelding and heart horse of 18 years together, Hershey, had lost hundreds of pounds and dropped from a body condition score of 6 to a 2 (1 being the lowest before death), an upper respiratory infection, in addition to living in an ill fitting fly sheet that was not removed for almost two months, which left sores all over his body.
Her mare, Khaleesi, had dropped from a 6 to a 3, and also has an upper respiratory infection.
Their donkeys, Millie and Daisy, not only noticeably lower body condition, but their legs had open wounds that were left untreated, as well as Daisy, having a severe injury to her withers.
Jesses horse, Goliath, suffered a cut to his foot, which was later revealed to have happened due to the facilities un-maintained and dangerous “feeders”, but thankfully he faired the best condition wise and has made a quick and full recovery.
During their time at the boarding facility the owner, nor caretakers, ever informed Chandra or Jesse as to the condition their animals were in. Chandra frequently asked how their animals were, and requested photos, but as time went on the communication became less and the photos frequently “forgotten” to be taken.
As of right now Hershey and Daisy’s condition is still very touch and go.
An animal cruelty case has been opened, but unfortunately it doesn’t help with the current and continued vet, treatment and feed bills required for their rehab. Chandra and Jesse are asking for any help for the animals they love so they can all make full recoveries and make the trip back to Texas.
