Help South Gate High student & family after fire

Donation protected
On Monday April 13, 2020 in South Gate, CA, the family home of Vanessa Olvera and her two daughters, Lauren and Bri, caught fire due to a gas leak. After waking up to the smell of smoke in her room, Lauren alerted and hurried her younger sister out of their burning home. Luckily, no one was injured in the fire, but the family’s struggles are now immense as the family had to find temporary living arrangements until it is safe to return. The house still stands and the damage is repairable, but the home did not have fire insurance and the family does not have the means to cover the expenses. The family must now find a way to repair the walls and floors as well as replace furniture, and clothing lost in the fire.

Vanessa Olvera works selflessly to provide for Lauren and Bri, who both attend area schools and are currently trying to finish the semester via distance learning. Over the past few years, I have witnessed this woman do everything possible to provide her girls with what they need to succeed on the field and in the classroom so they may chase their dreams. Ms. Olvera has been a huge support to us coaches at South Gate High School, as Lauren developed into a leader among her peers, and we would love nothing more than to help her and the girls.

Lauren Herrera Olvera is a senior at South Gate High School, captain of the Varsity softball team and a member of Decathlon. She is a disciplined student-athlete in the middle of her last semester of high school. She has been a wonderful young woman to coach, always challenging herself and motivating others to work a little bit harder. Like the rest of Class of 2020, milestones such as playoffs, prom, graduation have vanished, but without missing a beat she has been adjusting to distance learning and doing what is within her power to help support her family in this difficult and confusing time.

It is beyond comprehension how the family must be struggling to make ends meet with an uncertain housing situation now putting the family at greater risk of exposure to Covid-19. Please help Vanessa, Lauren and young Bri get back on their feet, rebuild their home and maintain some sense of normalcy.

I have organized this GoFundMe campaign to support the family and all funds will go to them.  I hope that you will find it in you to help this family in their time of need. The family will greatly appreciate any donation you can make on their behalf.

Thank you!
