My name is Aida and I am reaching out to you to help two Egyptian cats that I rescued from the streets of Zamalek (Cairo). In late July, I saw these two cats, Hero and Monkey, that needed urgent help. As a cat lover, I could not look away so I decided to help them and took them to the vet for treatment, which I have been paying with pocket money.

I would be enormously grateful if any animal lovers out there can financially support their treatment while I search for a loving foster/adoption home for them!

Hero

Hero, which deserves no other name, had been surviving with a hanging broken paw since at least back in February this year, drawing people’s attention on Facebook. Unfortunately, until late July, nobody was successful catching him, as he was very afraid of people and would always run and hide away in extreme pain. After a whole week bringing him food morning and evening, I had built enough trust with him and I managed to catch him inside a carrier. I immediately rushed him to the vet for treatment but doctors were not optimistic about his case.

His front paw had been brutally bitten by a dog and he was suffering from mycoplasma. From the beginning, they were convinced that amputation would be necessary to save his life. After days of intensive care, the pus started to disappear and the blood parameters improved. However, the doctors advised against amputation unless we find him a forever home where he is not exposed to more risks. So for the moment he is keeping his paw even though it is deformed. He is vaccinated and castrated.

Monkey

I found Monkey, a loving and funny buddy, around the same time and in the same street as Hero. He was desperately searching for food as he was severely underweight, suffering from an ulcer on his back paw and extreme anemia. Thanks to the incredible medical team, Monkey started to show his friendly personality but after being for so long in a cage he is a bit depressed. He is also vaccinated and neutered.

While I am trying to find a foster/adoption home where they can rebuild their lives and complete the healing process, I am struggling to cover the medical expenses and hospitalization, which I have been paying with my own savings.

Egyptian animal shelters and NGOs are overwhelmed and underfunded, making it hard for them to accommodate new cases and for me to obtain help from them. I am not Egyptian myself, but as someone who is temporarily living there, I took this challenge upon myself as a way of giving back to this amazing country.

Hero and Monkey’s stories are the story of millions of animals in Egypt’s streets, each and every one deserving love and attention. Therefore, I invite you to help Hero and Monkey, and me cover their critical treatment.
