Hernán Castro, founder of Desert Alchemist, is finally home after months in ICE detention! But now he faces the challenge of rebuilding his life.

For over two decades, Hernán has been a teacher, healer, and community leader, sharing knowledge about fungi, natural medicine, and sustainable living. His work has touched countless lives across Arizona and beyond.

While detained, Hernán lost his income, stability, and the ability to continue his work. He was detained for a case that would eventually simply be dismissed, meaning that all this time was taken from him for nothing. He was unable to work for ten months, but despite this he is not likely to see any recompense from the government for this. Now, he is navigating detention expenses, basic living costs, and the difficult process of restarting his business.
