Help Hermione Recover from Sepsis

My name is Laken Lewis, and I am raising money to help cover vet expenses for our family dog, Hermione.

Hermione was diagnosed with Pyometra on 7/29, which is a uterine infection in unspayed female dogs. She had to have emergency surgery to remove her reproductive organs. Surgery went well, but unfortunately, her body is now fighting off Sepsis. Hermione cannot keep her body temperature up on her own, so she’s in a machine called a bear hugger. She’s on two kinds of antibiotics as well as IV fluids. She has started to eat a little bit, which is great news since she wouldn’t before surgery.

Hermione has been a part of my husband’s life since 2019 while she was still a puppy. She has been here through both of our children’s births, our big move into our forever home, she has a fur sibling at home too missing his best friend, and so much more. Hermione isn’t just a pet to us, she’s family. We’re taking donations to cover her medical costs that are going up daily. What we expected to be a one-day procedure has turned into a three-day, possibly longer, stay. We’ve paid part of her expenses, but we simply cannot afford the rest on our own since the vet doesn’t do payment plans. We’re asking for help. Sharing or donating will help us in some way. We thank and appreciate everyone for helping our baby get to come home when she’s able to!

Peyton went to visit her today, which she was super excited about, and the vet called me after hours and said since he had been to see her, her WBC count has dropped from 65k to 28k! That’s amazing news! If all continues to go well, our girl should be able to come home tomorrow! They’ll send the rest of her antibiotics with her so we can continue to help her fight this infection off!

update: Hermione is home! The vet wasn’t going to let us bring her home unless payment was done in full. One of our friends, left to be anon, paid in full so she could come home. We are still accepting donations to pay this friend back for their generous contribution on bringing our girl home! Hermione is still being treated for infections at home with oral medications, and has an appt next week for a follow up to check on her blood work. Expenses are still there either way.
