My name is Heriberto, and I’m reaching out for support as my family and I face some of the most difficult challenges of our lives. Years ago, I was diagnosed with thyroid problems and began treatment, but my health took a turn for the worse after a 100-pound object fell on my head at work. The injury caused memory loss and made it even harder to manage my health. Over time, my thyroid condition developed into cancer, and I recently underwent surgery to have my thyroid removed. For the first time in years, I’m starting to feel clear-headed and hopeful about the future.
Throughout all of this, my mom Hilda has been my greatest support. Despite her own battles with severe asthma and now stage 4 cancer, she has always put my needs first—even leaving the hospital herself to care for me when I was at my lowest. Right now, I’m homeless and staying with my sister in Sunrise, FL, while my mom and I try to find stability. My immediate goal is to secure a place to live while I wait for cancer grants and disability support. I also need to rebuild my computer so I can get CompTIA certified and work remotely. I’ve invested in a lifetime IT course and am determined to regain my independence through remote work.
My family’s challenges don’t end there. My brother, who has severe Down syndrome and the mind of a one-year-old, has been cared for by my mom and me for 41 years. I want to place him in a special needs group home for his safety, but I hope to bring him home on weekends. Your support will help us cover housing, daily expenses, and the tools I need to rebuild my life. Thank you for helping us find hope and stability during this difficult time.
