Herbert Otis is my Uncle & most of all one of my best friends & more like a dad to me then and Uncle. We have been very close majority of my life and i can always count on him whenever i need him, im sure anyone who knows him would agree. Let me tell you a little about my Uncle he has 3 sisters Cindy, Bonnie, Deanne 1 brother John and a mother Corky still surviving. He has 3 nieces and several nephews. He is very very close to his great niece Bella who is 9 she just adores spending time with him especially getting rides to school on the motorcycle in which he always makes time to do. My Uncles favorite hobbies are riding his bike, fishing, traveling, & spending time with his friends & family he also absolutely loves being a part of his motorcycle club "The Northwest Freedom Riders" that his late father Herb Otis Sr. co founded. My Uncle Herbie resides in Everett in an apartment in which he just renewed the lease. He also in the last year landed the job he had been striving for as well as recently enrolled into Welding school to further his education. All of these things have now been tragically ripped away from him any decision he had over his life has now been taken against his will. Last weekend my Uncle Herbie was out for his typical weekend ride with friends from his bike club (The Northwest Freedom Riders) when he found himself victimized in a horrific tragic hit and run motorcycle accident while riding down the pacific hwy in Tacoma, Washington. While my Uncle Herbie and his friend were enjoying there afternoon ride when a female driver behind the wheel of a Chrysler 300 struck my Uncle with her vehicle and then proceeded to run from the scene while he lay bleeding and injured in the street. Mind you the speed limit on that road is roughly 50mph in which some vehicles are traveling at closer to 60mph. While this lady was running from the scene she struck another vehicle, thank God that person had no injuries. The only person to be injured was my Uncle Herbie. Due to the high rate of speed at impact my Uncle was thrown from his bike and proceeded to roll across the concrete over and over again roughly the length of about 2 full size football fields. My Uncle is currently suffering from 2 bruised lungs, multiple cuts & bruises and multiple areas of his body are mising layers of skin due to road rash he literally looks like a burn victim,  also his most significant injury was to his right foot, which was basically severed from his leg the only thing holding it to his leg still was a small section of skin. His friend had to hold his foot in his hand the whole way to the hospital to keep it from detaching  in hopes they could repair & reattach it at the hospital. While in the ambulance they began to cut away his clothing to asses his injuries all the while all he could do was scream in agony from all the pain he was in. Upon arrival at the hospital they rushed him into surgery to try and save his leg after surgery he was placed in a medically induced coma where he remained for several days. This was heartbreaking for me as i knew my Uncle was hurt I was unaware the  extent of his injuries but never in your wildest dreams can you prepare for what I walked into. I walked into My Uncle Herbie ICU room and I literally felt like someone knocked the wind right out of me. Right in front of me was My protector the guy that was a father figure to my brothers & I laying helpless mangled, bruised, broken with tubes coming out of his mouth and a loud machine next to him forcing the breathes in and out of him here he lay on life support while the person who did this was still at large. All I could do was cry no one can prepare you for that. My Uncle is a good guy and would do anything to help anyone out, he would give you the last dollars in his pocket if you needed it, he is always there for you when you need him and now he needs people to be there for him. The doctors are saying we have at least a year before he can walk and that he will need lots of rehabilitation & therapy care as well as someone to take him to all medical appointments & future surgeries. His doctors aren't even 100% sure the skin is going to stay viable  where they reconnected his foot if for any reason the skin becomes unviable he will have to have his leg amputated we are going day to day. He will need more surgery in the future and upon release from the hospital will need round the clock care because he will not be able to apply any pressure to his limb for at least 6 to 9 months maybe even a year as well as he will need extensive rehabilitation to learn to walk again. Herbie has a lot of very EXPENSIVE hospital/medical bills already pilling up not to mention no source of income to maintain his current bills (car payment, credit card, phone, rent, and other personal expenses etc.). Please I'm begging everyone from the bottom of my heart please I pray to God you help my Uncle Herbie & my family as we have no means to pay for any of these expenses. Travel costs to drive from North Marysville to Tacoma, Wa to be there for my Uncle Herbie while he is in ICU alone, each trip is $50 roundtrip not including the cost of food 3 times a week cost $240 alone as well as accommodation  for the first 2 nights we stayed in tacoma at a motel cost $300. Im asking all my friends and family as well as ANY MOTORCYCLE CLUBS who happen to read this please help us please anything helps even if it's only $5 dollars. I'm just trying to find some solution to help make a huge burden a little bit smaller. Im desperate for help and this is my last resort for my Uncle & my family & PLEASE SHARE THIS what if it were your loved one and you needed the help.  I do believe with every gift my Uncle will once again see the good in people again please help restore his faith in humanity & again please share this. Thank you so much & God Bless!!!
