A dear friend of mine is fighting for recovery after a devastating accident that changed everything in a matter of minutes.

While driving on the highway, she was struck head-on by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way into oncoming traffic. Just five minutes later, while she was still injured and vulnerable on the road, she was hit again by another vehicle. She was barely clinging to life when she arrived at the hospital.

The injuries are severe: a broken wrist, two broken ankles, a fractured pelvis, and internal bleeding. Her hemoglobin levels are dangerously low, and she is currently waiting for a blood transfusion. She has surgeries ahead of her, followed by an estimated four months in a rehabilitation facility just to heal, regain mobility, and begin rebuilding her life.

As if the physical and emotional trauma weren’t enough, the financial reality has been devastating. The drunk driver who caused the initial crash does not have insurance at all. The second driver who hit her only carries state minimum insurance, which barely covers anything. As a result, the majority of her medical bills will fall directly on her shoulders for an accident that was entirely not her fault.

No one should have to endure this kind of trauma and then be left to carry the financial burden alone.
