On 1/19 our babysitter was taking our son to Big Pines Local Park. Our son is non verbal and autistic, our sitter is deaf with cochlear implants. Our son gets to hang with her once a week to get out of the house. We love her. That day they went to the park at 430pm near new construction, walking trails and plenty of people. Her car passenger was smashed, with her purse and wallet stolen. Inside her purse was a cochlear implant replacement, as in her secondary device along with the remote. The remote itself is approx, $450, with implants close to 30k. We have inquired at her implant office along with insurance but a deductible will still be needed. Anything helps our sitter get her replacement cochlear and remote. We love her and she is amazing with our son. With so many people around, we can only think that crooks took advantage of two special needs people. One who could not tell (they were 100ft from the car) and one who would not hear the glass breaking. Anything helps our nanny get things “back to normal” while replacing her missing items. She will be working with “cochlear America” and all proceeds will go directly to them.
