Hi, I’m Cassi — a teacher whose body has recently decided to stage a full-on rebellion.
Over the past year, I’ve been hit with crushing fatigue, joint pain, and stiffness that sometimes makes it hard to even walk, move, or breathe. My hands don’t always cooperate, and basic things most people take for granted — like opening a jar or getting out of bed — can feel like climbing a mountain. Doctors believe I have an autoimmune disease, likely rheumatoid arthritis, and I’m waiting to see a rheumatologist to confirm and finally begin treatment.
Until then, every day feels like a mix of mystery and survival. My body is working against me, and it’s kept me from returning to the classroom I love. Teaching has always been my passion and purpose, and being away from my students has been one of the hardest parts of this journey. I’ve already exhausted my leave options, so I’m doing what doesn’t come easily for me — asking for help.
I’m setting my goal at $4,500, which would help cover the basics — rent, utilities, groceries, gas, and the medical bills insurance doesn’t touch — for the next few months while I focus on getting answers and starting treatment.
This hasn’t been an easy season. Alongside my health challenges, I’ve also faced personal loss that’s left me grieving and stretched thin. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that even when life feels unbearable, love and community make the weight a little lighter.
If you’re able to give, know that every dollar makes a real difference in keeping me afloat. If you can’t, simply sharing my fundraiser means the world. Either way, your kindness, your prayers, and your encouragement help me believe brighter days are ahead.
Thank you for being part of Team Cassi. You’re helping me fight for my health, my healing, and my future — and for the day I can return to the classroom where I belong.
With gratitude (and a dash of stubborn hope),
Cassi
