As you may know, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer back in 2013. After undergoing months of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and a double mastectomy to outlive the 2 to 5 year prognosis, I was well on my way to being in remission. I did a lot of spiritual work to help me, which significantly made a difference.
When 2018 rolled around, wouldn't you know it metastasized to other areas in my body, effectively making this a systemic disease that I would be treating indefinitely; at least that's what the oncologists are saying. I don't agree with that, frankly, and know I could go into remission at any time, and plan on doing so.
Last year, however, wasn't such a good year. Three out of four scans showed areas of cancer spreading to my back and hips. I was able to get several rounds of radiation to eradicate it, but radiation knocked me down like a feather, making it challenging just to eat supper.
It's been over 12 years now that I've been treating this. However, in light of the many different kinds of treatments, there are many different kinds of side effects. As well, I get PET scans every three months to closely monitor my progress. For example, one such targeted therapy I received was designed to treat the exact type of genome I have. However, after I wasn't able to function for weeks and ended up with Type 2 diabetes! I'm working with my primary doctor to remedy this, but it's an example of how this has been working. Once new things show up on a scan, a new medication is used until it's no longer effective and the cycle is repeated or goes into remission.
In light of the kind of job I had prior to all of this, as a veterinary business management consultant, I've created a marketing workshop for vet practices that correlate to the top 5 constructs going through what I've gone through has taught me and that can be useful in marketing. I'm super excited about previewing this 2.5-day in-practice workshop to a select few clients this fall.
With that in mind, over these past 12 years, I've depleted most all of my savings. There are several devices and services I need to acquire to help improve my body that aren't covered by my insurance and I'm well off from meeting my deductible at this point.
Another example here is the medications I'm currently taking have a direct side effect of bone and joint pain. The pain gets so bad at times that it's all I can do to keep myself upright and not moving, which is no way to live! Thankfully, I've been working with the folks at the pain management group to help with this, and we've made significant progress.
It's been an amazing journey thus far and one that I wouldn't wish on anyone. I've gotten stronger and more curious about life than I've ever been before and I've opened up the creative forces I didn't even know I had within me.
Most of you who know me know that I'm a rather resourceful woman. I'm quite good at doing research and discovering how to make things go right. And for the past 12 years now, I've done well.
I just need help now. I have many things that I've let slide so I could get treatments and/or medications. And at the risk of being bold by asking for help, I'm asking for help. All proceeds go directly to me and my well-being.
Very much do I appreciate your concern for me and will keep you posted on my progress!
