I am raising funds for my dearest friend, an extraordinary person who wishes to remain anonymous as she begins her gender transition. She is one of the most brilliant, creative, and compassionate people I have ever met.

For as long as she can remember, she has known she is a woman. Yet fear, financial barriers, and lack of support have kept her from living as her true self. She has struggled with severe gender dysphoria for years, and the psychological toll of being unable to transition safely has been devastating. There have been long stretches of depression, isolation, and suicidal ideation as she has tried to survive in a world that does not see her for who she truly is. Despite all of this, she continues to move forward with courage and hope, and now she is ready to begin her transition in full.

At present, she is uninsured and working in a service job that barely covers her living expenses. The cost of medically transitioning, including facial feminization surgery, hormone replacement therapy, recovery expenses, and the legal steps needed to affirm her identity, is far beyond what she can manage. I am hoping to raise $20,000 to help her access the medical care, therapy, and recovery time she needs to begin this process safely and with dignity.

Transitioning is not cosmetic or elective. For many trans people, including my friend, it is a matter of survival. She deserves to see herself reflected in the mirror, to move through the world without fear or shame, and to experience the peace of living authentically. She has faced rejection and isolation from family and friends, yet she continues to show love, empathy, and generosity to others. I want her to receive that same compassion in return.
