My name is Henry, (Henry James Morris when my Mum is cranky), I am 5 (and a fifth) years old and I need your help.
On 26th March I had spinal surgery for a herniated disk extrusion between disks L1-L2 and was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disk Disease (IVDD), stage 4 going on stage 5. This disease affects 1 in 4 sausage dogs, but nobody told me! If I’d known, I might have taken it easy. Afterall I am doggy macho, a pit-bull on the inside, in the prime of my life, I fear no one (and I mean, NO ONE), and eat whatever takes my fancy.
At the time of my surgery, my Mum lost her job because Covid-19 restrictions shut down the beauty industry, so she’s been home with me. Following my spinal surgery, I’ve had 9 weeks of physio and although I was pretty wobbly in the beginning, I’d recently started taking a few steps. All along my Mum has been telling me how good I am. I was starting to get excited about peeing on my own, until 3 days ago, when my back legs stopped working. There was a 25% chance of it happening again, but I’m pretty special. So, it happened again. Now I need surgery for another herniated disk between T13-L1, stage 3 this time. If I don’t have surgery, it can escalate to stage 5 and I won’t walk again and might become incontinent. (Wetting my pants stresses me out!)
The first surgery cost my Mum and Dad $8000. Yep, I know you’re thinking that is a lot of money, but I love them so much they said it was worth it. How do you measure love, right? Now that I need surgery again, my friend the vet, says he will do it at a reduced rate, but it will still cost $5000.
My Mum and Dad are my best friends (along with my Grandma), and they’ve had leaking eyes for weeks now. I’d really like to help them out, but a sausage dog can only earn so much, so now I have to ask for your help. My Mum & Dad aren’t the type of people to reach out but they are doing it tough. Mum & Dad are kind & thoughtful, & are first people to put up their hands when people or fur babies are in need. Let me tell you more about ME. Everyone who meets me has an instant connection. It’s hard not to notice me because I’m attention seeking and I have the most excitable bum wriggle when I say hello. I taught my Mum & Dad responsibility. I taught them how to love. Taught them how to be loved. I taught them how to enjoy the little things. I taught them how to truly LIVE. I am their world br />Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I am Henry the sausage dog (but a pit bull on the inside), and I need your help please to raise $5000 for my surgery.
P.S. I am adopted but we don’t talk about it. When my parents adopted me, the breeder wasn’t even sure who my biological Dad was, which made my birth Mum look bad, but now we think he must have had IVDD too. My Mum and Dad say it doesn’t matter because they would still have picked me.
