Help Henintsoa Daniel finish his Master's Degree!
My name is Henintsoa Daniel. I was born and raised in Madagascar. Currently, I am enrolled in a Master's degree program for Child and Youth Care(CYC) studies at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Helping vulnerable children and youths has been my passion my entire life. This degree is a 2 year long program offering an engaging curriculum that draws from a variety of disciplines and approaches including child and youth care, social pedagogy, sociology, psychology, health, education, social work and social policy. It aims at endowing child and youth care workers, such as myself, with advanced skills and evidence-based practices in caring for at-risk children and youths. I have already completed my first year and am about to begin my second year this September, but I need to raise $5000 USD to pay the final tuition fees and be able to graduate.
I have 12 years of experience in education as well as child and youth care in destitute communities, schools and various grassroot non-profits. Although I have had the chance to be involved in a large variety of programs that were life-changing for me and for Madagascar, one of my most valued experiences was my humble beginning as a special education needs teacher at the American School of Antananarivo. This is where I learned to connect with my students and embrace their strength and vulnerability through an authentic heart to heart, mind to mind teacher-student relationship. This is also where my life adventure with my non-profit, Hay Kanto, started. Having the welfare of vulnerable children at heart, my fellow teaching colleagues and I founded Hay Kanto to provide street children with free access to community-lead activities such as arts clubs, science clubs, girls wellness clubs and food and clothing drives. Hay Kanto is still running to this day. Currently we’re facilitating the implimentation of a post-carceral vocational program for youth in conflict with the law.
With this CYC master's degree I will not only continue my work with Hay Kanto, but I will also build on all of my experience helping at risk children and youths in Madagascar by formerly establishing a Child and Youth Care profession in Madagascar and sharing my CYC knowledge, experience and applicable theories at universities and continuing education programs. In order to reach more people, I would also pursue knowledge-dissemination through relevant public platforms such as radio, TV, webinars or other events that promote child protection, children’s rights and related topics.
I strongly believe I can do more for Malagasy children and youth. This is why I decided to engage in a CYC master's program and why I intend to use it to further my ability to help bring quality services to the most vulnerable children and youths. This is an adventure I want share with you. Your contribution to my education is a lasting investment that will ensure I have the skills needed to assist the most destitute children and youth in Madagascar. Through this fundraiser and your contribution, I hope to raise $5,000 by Sept. 15th, 2021. Most people in Madagascar don’t get the chance to pursue education at this level because of the prohibitive cost. $5000 is all I need to pay the tuition fees for my final year and to graduate with a master’s degree.
Thank you so much for your support to me, to the Child and Youth Care profession in Madagascar and, most importantly, to the children and youths we serve.
