Hemi is our 4-year-old pit bull who loves to play and brings so much joy to our lives. If you know us, you know our dogs mean the absolute world to us and this news for Hemi is devastating. If you know bullies, you know they're little tanks of solid muscle and endless energy. About a month ago, we noticed Hemi limping and took him to the vet, hoping it was just a minor injury. After x-rays and a second opinion from the Colorado Canine Orthopedic clinic, we received the heartbreaking news that Hemi has a full CCL (ACL) tear in his right knee and a partial tear in his left knee. The doctor explained that it is inevitable his left CCL will need surgery as well.

We do not have children—our dogs are our kids, and it’s devastating to see Hemi in pain. The thought of him losing his playful spirit because we can’t afford the surgeries is unbearable. The TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery is the only way to relieve his pain and restore his quality of life, but the cost is overwhelming for us. We were quoted a substantial amount for both surgeries, which is more than we can manage on our own. Unfortunately, the CCL will not repair itself, and delaying surgery will only make things worse for Hemi. Donations will go directly to help us pay for the surgery, recovery, and Hemi's medication. If you know Hemi, you know that he is a happy-go-lucky boy, super goofy, and loves more than anything to play. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see him in so much pain.
