Back in 2021, my sister, who lives in Dubai, started an Instagram account to find homes for a stray mother cat and her 3 kittens.

What was meant to be short-term effort has turned into a years-long journey.

The UAE provides little if any support in the way of shelters, funding or nationwide initiatives such as TNR; fundraising isn’t allowed for non-registered charities; dumping of pets is rampant; volunteer fosters have become almost non-existent, creating a rise in paid fostering; and for the most part, finding adopters in the country is a rarity.

Animal advocates and rescuers spend their own time, effort, and money neutering and feeding colonies, treating the sick and injured, and finding homes abroad in Europe, Canada and the U.S.

In May of this year, my sister moved into a new neighborhood and was welcomed by loads of strays. The last 6 months have taken a toll.

I’m starting this fundraiser to try and relieve some of the financial burden of caring for cats in the community.

Neutering as many of the cats around as possible, feeding daily, treating those who are sick, and those who have dental issues, and when necessary, taking others off the streets, it all adds up. And every little bit helps.

If you’d like to specify what the donation should be used for, we will happily provide invoices, receipts and updates.

Following and sharing the Instagram account (help_clemmie) could potentially mean an adoption, and that’s really the ultimate goal.
