Dear friends,
Our family is facing a challenging time as our beloved mother, Helen, 63, has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) and is receiving treatment in the Philippines. She has spent her life caring for others, and now she needs our help more than ever.
GBS is a rare neurological condition where the immune system attacks the nerves, causing weakness, numbness, and in severe cases, paralysis. As her condition progresses, her body weakness is increasing — even walking has become extremely difficult for her. Her left side has become noticeably weaker, and have also observed drooping on the left side of her face, which still needs to be confirmed with a CT scan. She is now struggling to open her mouth and speak clearly and has been placed on a nasogastric (NG) tube for feeding.
She has already begun her treatment, including intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy and supportive care, but we will need your continued help to sustain it because of the high cost of medications and hospital care. Recovery can be slow and may take weeks to months, often requiring rehabilitation to regain strength and independence.
The costs of hospitalization, medications, therapies, and continuous care are overwhelming. As we begin her treatment, it is far beyond what our family can manage alone. Every day brings new challenges, and we humbly ask for your support to ensure my mom gets the care she urgently needs.
Your prayers, love, and support mean the world to us. Any contribution — no matter how small — will go directly toward covering her medical expenses and allow us to focus on being by her side during this difficult journey.
My mom has always been the heart of our family — selfless, joyful, and full of warmth. Together, with your help, we hope to give her the best chance to recover and continue being the incredible mother, wife, and grandmother she has always been.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your kindness, your prayers, and for standing with our family during this challenging time.
With gratitude,
The Fernandez Family
