Hi, I’m Helen.
I’m writing this at a moment I never expected to be in—preparing for surgery next week while our household is facing sudden financial instability.
Over the past several months, I’ve been dealing with escalating gynecological pain that resulted in multiple ER visits, specialist care, and a confirmed diagnosis requiring surgery. I continued working as long as I safely could, but my condition worsened to the point where surgery is now unavoidable.
At the same time, my husband Todd was laid off last month. Between his job loss and my medical leave, our household income has effectively disappeared just as medical bills, insurance premiums, rent, and basic living costs continue.
Our household includes:
Our oldest child, who has their own ongoing medical needs and depends on us for stability and care
A close friend and roommate, who is chosen family and shares our home; maintaining housing stability is essential for all of us
We also care for four cats, who rely entirely on us for their food, medications, and daily care. They are family, and keeping them safe and cared for while I recover matters deeply to us.
This fundraiser is meant to help us bridge the gap while I undergo surgery and heal, and while Todd looks for new work. Funds will go toward:
Rent, utilities, and groceries
Health expenses, transportation and post-surgical care.
Basic household necessities
Asking for help doesn’t come easily, but right now we’re doing everything we can to keep our home stable and get through this safely.
Any support—donations or sharing—means more than we can express. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
With gratitude,
Helen & Todd
