Hi, my name is Heidi, and I’m a senior in high school. I never thought I’d have to make a page like this, but my family truly needs help.
My mom is battling end-stage liver cirrhosis (liver failure). She was diagnosed late last year after struggling with alcohol addiction. It was incredibly hard for her to stop, but she did — and has been trying every day to live a healthy life since then.
Growing up, my parents were divorced, and I didn’t get to spend as much time with my mom as I wanted. my mom moved to California and gave birth to my little bother. His biological father tragically passed away from an overdose — on my mom’s birthday November 17th. A week later, she was diagnosed with liver failure. My parents found their way back to each other, and my mom came back into my life. Just when it felt like we were finally rebuilding our relationship, everything changed again.
She’s fought so hard to get better. But recently, her liver levels went from a 16 to a 26 — meaning she is now in critical condition and has only months left to live without help.
Right now, my dad is out of work and searching for a new job. I’m the only one working part-time while finishing high school, so I can’t fully support us on my own. Her only other option at this point is hospice — a place for people to spend their final days — and I’m not ready to lose her.
We just got approved for insurance, but it only covers 80% of medical costs. We still have to pay 20% of her hospital bills, and insurance won’t cover the healthy food, medications, and physical therapy she’ll need to prepare for and recover from a possible transplant.
I love my mom deeply, and I just want the chance to keep her here — for me, and for my little brother, who’s already lost so much, and can’t grow up an orphan.
Anything you can give — even sharing this page — would mean the world to me. Thank you for reading and for helping us fight for her life.
