My name is Heidi, and I’m reaching out for help after a series of heartbreaking and overwhelming events involving both my own health and the health of my two beloved cats, Minya and Tiki. Not long ago, I faced a terrifying cancer scare after a routine mammogram. While the results thankfully came back benign after an agonizing wait, the copays and medical bills were already difficult to manage on top of the emergency biopsy I had to have done on my leg over the summer. As if this wasn’t stressful enough, my girl Minya, who I raised from a tiny kitten over the past fifteen years, began having health issues due to a broken tooth. After several expensive tests and medications, I was told she was in end stage kidney and liver failure. Her vet said there was nothing more they could do, and I had to make the devastating decision to let her go to prevent her from suffering. I chose an at-home euthanasia service to give her the most gentle, peaceful passing possible, but the experience was traumatic for both of us. Minya had a bad reaction to the sedative, and the process was rushed—I didn’t even get to hold her in my arms when she passed. Losing her in this way broke my heart and absolutely destroyed me.

After Minya’s passing her sister Tiki, my little tortie who was deeply bonded with her, was so devastated with grief that she completely stopped eating and drinking, losing all her will to live. I’ve spent thousands of dollars at the emergency vet and with her usual vet in less than a week, running every test possible to try to find a health issue and to do everything possible to keep from losing her too. No one has been able to find anything that would cause this extreme behavior, and she seems to literally be dying of a broken heart. The emotional and financial toll of these back-to-back crises has left me struggling to keep up with the mounting bills. I am doing everything I can for Tiki, but I am running out of resources and options considering everything I have endured in less than a month’s time.
