Hector Medina, Jr.: Trip to England

You are looking at the next professional soccer player from Salinas. His name is Hector Medina, Jr. and he is an 8th grader. If players his age were ranked in this area, there is no doubt that Hector would be at the very top of the list. He plays for Almaden F.C. in the bay area, and he has participated in many top level tournaments throughout the U.S. His dad, Hector Medina, is an Alisal alum. Both Hector and his wife, Maria, were both my students at Alisal High School. Hector comes from a fantastic family. Hector, Sr. works at a flower growing business where he works full-time. He is often helped by his entire family.

I know Hector, Jr. personally, and I can tell you with utmost honesty that he is a young boy with character of the highest order. He is respectful, polite, helpful, and kind. He is also a very hard worker in everything he does. After school, he arrives and puts in hours working in the greenhouses, helping his parents catch up on work. Hector is also academically solid and has maintained high grades for many years.

Hector recently received news that he has been selected by the SC Pro Soccer Academy to travel to England to play against the top youth academies in that country, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Leeds, to name a few. This is a massive opportunity for one of our own kids from Salinas, and I believe that there is strong sentiment in this community that would back Hector and his dream and work to make this a reality for him. Unfortunately, Hector’s parents would not be traveling with him, as they have to work and tend to their other two children. However, Hector’s uncle will be accompanying him on the trip, if it happens. Let’s make it happen!
