My name is Paola Andrea Gonzalez and I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of my dear uncle, Héctor de Jesús González Carmona, who lives in Cali, Colombia.

In November 2023, Hector began noticing that something was not right with his health. After many delays with his healthcare provider, he finally saw an oncologist in April 2024 and received the devastating diagnosis: prostate cancer.

From that moment, our family entered a long and painful journey filled with endless paperwork, delays in exams, and postponed treatments. After months of appeals and petitions, a surgery was finally scheduled for August 30, 2024 (Radical Prostatectomy and Prostatovesiculectomy). On the very day of the procedure, it was canceled because his healthcare provider (EPS Comfenalco) had not made the required payments to the hospital.

Instead, Hector was put on daily radiotherapy, from May 4 to June 22, 2025. He now awaits his next oncology appointment on September 15 to learn what comes next in his treatment.

This has been an emotionally and financially exhausting process. Hector is a pensioner with only the minimum wage in Colombia. He and his wife Amanda tried to continue working informally to support their household, but due to his health condition, they could no longer do so. As a result, they have fallen into serious debt while still struggling to cover their most basic needs like rent, food, and transportation.

We are creating this fundraiser to help Hector regain financial stability and allow him to focus on recovery without the constant fear of not being able to cover the essentials.

Fundraiser Update for Hector – September 15th

Glory to God, we have good news to share from Hector’s last oncology visit on Monday, September 15th. The radiotherapy has successfully stopped the cancer from advancing. While it has not yet been eradicated, there has been no further growth, which is a big step forward compared to how aggressively it was spreading before.

Because radiotherapy is very strong, the doctors will now move Hector to a new medication. He is currently waiting for approval from his health provider to know where he should go to begin receiving it. His next oncology appointment is scheduled for the end of November (also pending approval).
