Hi, my name is Grecia Lopez, and today I’m doing something I never imagined I’d have to do. I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share some difficult news about someone very dear to me—my uncle, Hector Alicea also know as Pulla.

Many of you know him as the heart and soul behind Boryken Food Truck, and some of you may even remember when he first started with just a grill and a small oven, selling pinchos outside a 7/11. No matter how humble the beginnings, he always served up real Puerto Rican flavor with passion, pride, and love.

I’ve always been incredibly proud of how far he’s come—how hard he’s worked, how many hours he’s poured into building his business and bringing joy to others through food. That’s why it breaks my heart to share that he has recently and unexpectedly been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, along with other serious health concerns.

This diagnosis has forced him to immediately stop working, just as his food truck was finally gaining traction and success. His journey ahead is going to be long, physically demanding, and emotionally exhausting—but through it all, he remains in good spirits and is determined to fight with everything he’s got.

As the primary provider for his family, this diagnosis doesn’t just impact his health—it creates an overwhelming financial strain on the entire household. His wife works in child care, but as many of us know, that alone won’t be enough to support their family during this incredibly tough time.

We are starting this fundraiser to help ease the burden, so his wife can focus more on being there for him—offering the love and care that is so needed when someone is fighting for their life.

It’s deeply frustrating that in moments like these, families not only have to face the trauma of illness, but also worry about how they’ll make ends meet. Hola, mi nombre es Grecia López, y hoy me toca hacer algo que nunca pensé que tendría que hacer. Es bien difícil para mí compartir esta noticia, pero lo hago con todo el amor y esperanza del mundo.

Mi tío, Héctor Alicea, muchos lo conocen como Pulla y el dueño del food truck Boryken, y otros lo conocen desde sus comienzos humildes cuando vendía pinchos frente a un 7/11 con solo una parrilla y un hornito. Desde siempre, ha traído el sazón boricua con orgullo, pasión y mucho cariño.

Estoy tan orgullosa de todo lo que ha logrado. Él ha trabajado duro por años para levantar su negocio y ver sus sueños cumplirse. Por eso, es tan devastador contarles que recientemente le han diagnosticado cáncer de pulmón en etapa avanzada, además de otras condiciones médicas que complican aún más su tratamiento.

Lamentablemente, esto lo obliga a dejar de trabajar justo cuando su negocio por fin estaba despegando. Su camino ahora será largo, fuerte y agotador, pero a pesar de todo, mi tío sigue con buen ánimo y está listo para pelear esta batalla con todo lo que tiene.

Como proveedor principal del hogar, esta situación no solo afecta su salud, sino también crea una carga económica bien fuerte para su familia. Su esposa trabaja en cuido de niños, pero sabemos que ese ingreso no es suficiente para sostener todo sola.

Por eso estamos organizando esta colecta, para poder aliviar un poco la carga y que ella pueda estar más presente para cuidar y acompañar a su esposo, como todos sabemos que él se merece.

Da mucha rabia que vivamos en un mundo donde un diagnóstico así no solo te tumba emocional y físicamente, sino también te obliga a preocuparte por lo económico.
