I am sharing this on behalf of a family member that experienced a loss of their home in Aloha, OR early in the morning on September 17th.
In the early hours of the morning, Heather—a loving mom to her 12-year-old son—experienced the unimaginable. At 3am, Heather awoke on the couch to find their apartment engulfed in flames.
Heather is deaf, and had she not fallen asleep on the couch that night, this story may have had a different ending. By the grace of God, she was able to get herself and her son to safety. Tragically, they were not able to save their beloved cat, and their apartment burned to the ground, leaving them with nothing.
Heather is the sweetest person you would ever meet. She can read lips and loves to have conversations with people. When you talk with her, she is so encouraging and just wants the best for everyone. Living in a hearing world and not being able to hear can bring its own challenges, but amidst a loss like this, it can be especially difficult to rebuild.
We want to give a shoutout to the American Red Cross that has been supportive to those affected by this fire. Currently, Heather and her son have been placed in temporary housing. They are needing funds to be able to get into a new apartment (first and last month's rent) and to replace things like furniture and housewares, all of which was lost.
If you feel moved, please consider giving what you can. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with others is another way to show support.
Let’s surround Heather and her son with love, prayers, and practical help as they rebuild their lives after this devastating loss.
