Heather, my dear friend, is facing one of the toughest challenges of her life. She was recently involved in a devastating car accident, where she was trapped in her car with a broken femur popped

put of her leg and a broken ankle protruding from her skin along with a fractured foot. She went through one surgery to repair her broken femur inserting a rod and 3 screws to repair it, and they stabilized her foot/ankle

at that time. A few days later they took her back to surgery to complete the work on her foot and ankle with screws and then pins holding her foot together to heal properly. She is unable to walk/bear weight for at least another 8-10 weeks and there is a possibility of another surgery. All of this is hard on it’s own, but it’s even harder being a mom who is involved in everything her kids do day to day (gymnastics, dance & construction) There’s not a day that you don’t see her 8 & 9 year old daughters and stop to just say how beautiful they look or to see her son (17) stop and thank someone who has served for our country. Her and her partner have raised them right. After the xfix aka cage as she calls it, is removed, it is unsure if there will be another surgery or if just physical therapy is needed to help her learn to be able to walk again. The cost of the surgeries, physical therapy, 19 days in the trauma unit at the hospital, all the follow up appointments, the equipment that had to be purchased for home so she can scoot around, to use wheelchair, commode and sit on the couch (that’s the extent of her movement). Sure she is safe & fully taken care of as she unable to do most daily tasks for herself all while trying to keep life stable for their three children and keeping her wounds clean every 3-4 days where the pins hold her foot/ankle together which is no small task.

The accident has turned their world upside down. With both adults unable to work regular hours, the financial strain is overwhelming. Heather does not have insurance, and the costs of rent, utilities, groceries, rides to and from the doctors in palm beach county while living in home sound with no vehicle and the children’s needs are quickly adding up. Medical expenses and the prospect of more surgeries make things even harder.

Because Heather cannot walk and Danny is needed at home, they are relying heavily on friends and family to help get the kids to school and their activities. That’s why we’re asking for help.
