Our hearts go out to all of the families in the Haleiwa and Waialua area that were impacted by the flooding.
Last night at 12:30am, flood waters filled Heather and Mike’s rented home in Waialua. The water quickly rose to belly-button height, inundating the entire property. In just a few hours, they lost both of their cars and everything inside their home. Heather and Mike, along with their two dogs and three birds, spent the entire night perched on a bathroom sink, waiting for rescue. It wasn’t until 8:30am that help finally arrived, bringing them and their pets to safety.
Now, Heather and Mike are facing the daunting task of starting over from scratch. They need to find a new place to stay and begin rebuilding their lives—replacing bedding, houseware, furniture, and all the essentials that make a home. Mike’s truck, which was lost in the flood, is also how he is able to work, so getting back on their feet is urgent.
Anything helps. We love Mike and Heather and are committed to helping them for the long haul. We are grateful to the community for stepping up and helping us support them as they cope with this devastating situation.
Heather is my closest friend from Middle School (over 40 years!) I have made her a direct beneficiary of these funds and 100% of the money raised will go to her.
