I'm Heather I'm 50, physically disabled and have a couple of mental illnesses . I've been married to Paul, my best friend, for 32 years.
I've been fighting, for years for social security disability benefits and last fall I finally won. I was so relieved I cried. I've spent this past year jumping through hoops to figure out how much financial benefit I qualify for.
Last week I discovered I would not only get no financial benefit but I might also lose my health benefits. Because I'm married. There is no way we could afford my $900 worth of medications each month much less doctor visits or treatments.
If I get a divorce soon enough I can simply appeal the decision rather than having to start the potentially years long application process again.
Paul is currently laid off so coming up with the extra $301 for a no fault co-file divorce feels way out of reach.
My goal is to file for divorce & keep my health coverage. If you have even a dollar or two you can spare toward the cause we'd be so grateful.
As of 10/11 your generosity has helped us exceed our goal by $250!! This excess will go toward filling the truck with gas, getting Paul some appropriate clothes for a job interview, groceries a new wrist brace.
Your generosity is humbling and heartwarming. Thank you for reminding me that people care about us. I care about you too.
