Help Heather as She Becomes a Cancer Survivor
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Simone and a dear friend of mine, of our community, needs your help. Heather, the sole provider for her two teenage girls, was diagnosed in August 2023 with breast cancer. Since then she has had a double mastectomy and is now undergoing chemotherapy. Heather is a Licensed Therapist helping people with substance use issues, trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and working with teens, families and schools. She makes a big impact in our community. I cannot even begin to imagine what it might be like to help her clients, when feeling so sick herself. The truth is, she cannot. Her ability to work has been greatly hindered and therefore her income for her family has taken a hit. Pair that with the hospital, surgery, and treatment bills, and you can only imagine the fear she might be feeling. I ask that you give. $1, $5, $20, $100. Whatever you are able to, no matter how small, she will be grateful. Let's pull together and let Heather know she is as supported as she herself supports this community.
I asked her to write about her life since the diagnosis and I've included it below. In her words....
Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. I am reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a story that has profoundly impacted my life.
In August of 2023, I discovered a lump in my right breast during a routine self-examination. What started as a seemingly routine check led to a biopsy and, ultimately, a diagnosis of Invasive Mammary Ductal Carcinoma. The journey since then has been filled with uncertainties, fears, and countless medical appointments.
Despite facing this diagnosis with strength and faith, the challenges have been immense. A double mastectomy was a decision I made to increase the odds of being there for my children and grandchildren. However, the recurrence rate remained high, leading to the necessity of chemotherapy. This unexpected turn has left me both shocked and terrified.
As a single provider for my family, the impact on my income has been drastic. Medical expenses, surgeries, and the ongoing battle against cancer have taken a toll, reducing my ability to work to just 25% of what I was doing before. I find myself unable to cover essential costs, and the financial strain is affecting not only me but also my two daughters.
I am humbly reaching out to you, seeking financial assistance during this challenging time. Last year, I could manage a substantial deductible, but circumstances have changed. I'm currently unable to work due to the severity of my illness and upcoming surgeries. I do not receive child support, and legal assistance is out of reach.
If you find it in your heart to contribute, even a small amount, it would mean the world to me and my family. My two daughters, who bring me immense pride, are already shouldering responsibilities beyond their years. Your support will not only help alleviate the financial burden but also provide a sense of stability and normalcy for my children.
We have set up this GoFundMe campaign with the hope that, together, we can ensure that my kids and I can stay in our home, face the challenges ahead, and continue striving for a sense of normalcy amidst this storm.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, and for any support you can provide. Your kindness and generosity are a beacon of light in our darkest moments.
With gratitude,
